We are going to start something new on our blog…the Question of the Week.  We are going to take real questions our customers have been asking and post them on here, so we can try to help everyone!  We have noticed if one person askes us a question, at least 10 more want to know but haven’t asked! Our first question of the week is…..When should I open my pool???

Great question!  This is one that we get often this time of year, and I’m sure with our awsome forecast we just got (Highs in the 70′s on Saturday) we are going to be getting this question a lot more in the very near future.

The best answer is to open your pool when your grass begins to grow.  It is a good rule of thumb that if your grass is growing and needs to be mowed that other organisms such as algae are also starting to grow underneath your winter cover.  Trust us, it is much easier to keep a clear pool clear even if you are not swimming than to try to turn a green pool clear.  When the water temperature is low, the pool does not need as much maintenance or chemicals as it does in June or July.   Once the pool is opened and balanced, it is very low maintenance until the season revs up!

 

Opening the pool early, and to clear water, can help you avoid unexpected costs, such as the expense to treat an algae problem.  This year, we will be  sharing many pool care tips to avoid unexpected expenses so you can get the most enjoyment from your pool this summer.  As always, if for some reason you are unable to open your pool this early, we recommend pulling the cover back on your pool and shocking it.  Once your grass begins growing, shocking the pool water under the cover once a month will help ensure you still open a clear pool when the time comes.
